Jesus picks up the theme from last week. All who are God’s people hear His voice. They recognize it as a voice of hope and safety and follow it. Christians are not saved by their works, but we respond to the gift of salvation by doing what God has commanded. Jesus says that if we love Him we will keep His commands. This is evidence that we are truly saved, that the spirit is transforming us and leading us to be more like Jesus Christ. You cannot believe and not be changed.
The promise of eternal life is given. Christians are given this promise at the beginning of their Christian walk. There are no degrees or levels to earn or obtain. Christ has paid it all. He freely gives you new life now and eternal life to come. Strong words: “They will never perish and no one will snatch them out of my hand”. This is true eternal security- if you know Christ!
