I Peter 1:3-10 (Examine your Life)

This week our devotions will help us prepare to enter a new year. There is nothing special about a new year. It is marking time. It helps us keep straight the passing of time. It also gives us an opportunity to examine our life once a year. It seems the older we get the busier we get. It is hard for us to stop and consider what is going on in our lives. We can become numb to some issues, thoughts, and even behaviors that we need to address. The beginning of a new year is a good time to read through this passage. We are not working our way to salvation, but we should examine our lives to see if we have evidence that our election and calling are sure.
Are we living for Christ? Are we growing closer to Christ, to His people, to His church? Do we see growth in virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love? Have you grown cold in your walk with Christ over the last year? Where do you need to take action in 2017?
