Peter is foolish. He thinks he is doing the right thing, but he is not listening or understanding what Jesus is saying to them. Have you ever tried to talk with someone who will not listen; your doctor, a store clerk, a waiter, someone who doesn't hear what you are saying? It can be frustrating. Peter has already rushed to his conclusion. He doesn't understand what Jesus is going to do or what Jesus has for him in the future. He cannot go where Jesus is about to go.
When Jesus says, “I am going and you cannot go with me”, Peter jumps in and says, “I will go and lay down my life.” Peter is rash. He does not listen to Jesus.
Are you listening to Jesus? Are you listening to His Word? There is a danger in being rash, in thinking you already know. Are you praying through the Word? Are you seeking to understand it? Do not be rash or foolish! Listen to the Bible!
