Matthew 22:34-40 (True Goals)

Most of us try and think about what we want to do in the New Year. These can take a variety of directions. I want to challenge you to think about what lies behind your goals and plans for 2017. Jesus here turns aside a challenge from His opponents by declaring what are the two greatest commandments. It seems to me that if we are planning out our year, these two commandments should be before us as we make our plans.
We are to Love God with all our heart, soul, and mind. All that we do, in every part of our life, should come back to our love for God . We should be Christ centered in every area of our life out of love for God.
We are to Love others as ourselves. This follows the example of Christ’s love for us. He loved us like Himself and died on the cross for us.
As you make plans and set goals for 2017, are these commandments at the heart of what you are planning to do? Should they not be, as these are the greatest things that God has told us to do?
